Old Boys to benefit from Kiwi time off
July 25, 2001

Time off afforded the New Zealand Tri-Nations squad this week could have unexpected and welcome ramifications for the club side High School Old Boys.

The Christchurch side are due to play in the club final at Rugby Park on Saturday and with the players likely to return home to play for their club sides could have Andrew Mehrtens, Rueben Thorne and Justin Marshall in their side.

Coach Wayne Smith, who is keen on his players maintaining relations with their clubs, said:

"Just being home with their family and friends is probably more important than staying and working together at this stage. But a lot of them are probably going to play club rugby this weekend. Basically, those who want to are going to play."

The 26-man squad will meet up again on Monday at Burnham military camp ahead of the Bledisloe Cup clash against Australia in Dunedin next month following their 12-3 opening win against South Africa last Saturday.
