Wigan's chief threatens legal challenge
July 26, 2001

Wigan chairman Maurice Lindsay has threatened the RFU with legal action as league stars continue to be tracked by the 15-man code.

He described the union's approach to Wigan full back Kris Radlinski, who still has 18 months to run on his contract, as an "inducement to breach of contract".

In today's Sun newspaper he said: "They have got a damn cheek in making a tempting offer to Kris because he has got another 18 months to run on his contract."

Scrum has learned that players contracted to league clubs have been taking personal telephone calls from top union officials for some months inquiring about their availability.

Currently Leeds and St Helens are in talks with the WRU, who want to part fund the transfers of Iestyn Harris and Keiron Cunningham respectively.

Lindsay wants league to review its salary cap policy that he says is tying league's hands behind its back and preventing the code from fighting back.

He suggested that the RFU ought to be more careful in the way it approaches players in the future and accused it of treating league "with disdain".
