Giffin cops three weeks
July 29, 2001

The door has opened again for Lions hero Justin Harrison to return to the Wallabies after lock David Giffin was suspended for three weeks on a striking charge from the Tri-Nations match against South Africa in Pretoria.

Giffin pleaded guilty to striking Springbok centre and vice-captain Robbie Fleck late in the first-half of the clash won by South Africa 20-15.

A three-man judiciary panel outed him until August 19, ruling him out of Australia's next two Tri-Nations matches against New Zealand in Dunedin on August 11 and South Africa in Perth on August 18.

Giffin struck Fleck with his forearm and just seconds later Springbok captain Bob Skinstad scored a crucial try.

Harrison is sure to return to the squad after he was left out of the trip to South Africa following the return from injury of Giffin. Harrison replaced the injured Giffin to make his Wallaby debut in the final Lions Test at Stadium Australian and won the man-of-the-match award.
