Mulder not ready yet

Lions centre Japie Mulder will not make his comeback from injury against the Falcons at Ellis Park on Saturday.

The Springbok midfielder, who pulled a calf muscle in the Bankfin Currie Cup opener against the Natal Sharks in Durban last month, has been back in training this week, but according to coach Frans Ludeke he's not match-fit yet.

"We tried to get Japie to play against the Falcons, but the medical team believes it is still too early and that we should wait a couple of weeks," he told Beeld. "That means he should be ready for our next Currie Cup game against Free State at Ellis Park on September 8."

Mulder admitted he was keen to play, but agreed it was probably for the best to wait a while. "However, I will be ready to play against Free State," the burly centre said.
