Knee rules Greeff out
August 14, 2001

Mighty Elephants No 8 Jacques Greeff is a non-starter for his team's Currie Cup clash against the Free State Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

The infuential loose-forward was ruled out of action Tuesday when a stress fracture below his right-knee was diagnosed.

The injury headaches of coach Allister Coetzee continue to mount after he lost Julian Barnard and Tjaart Coetzee for the rest of the season already.

Greeff will only play in six weeks' time at the soonest, so Coetzee will have to play without his outstanding player for the remainder of the Currie Cup.

Coetzee on Tuesday named a team that showed just one change from the side that lost 30-18 to the Lions a fortnight ago. Pierre Durant moves over from loosehead to tighthead prop in place of Tjaart Coetzee, with Dekado Jantjies coming in at loosehead.

Jantjies has a broken finger, but took part in all training this week. There was some good news, with Springbok Ricardo Loubscher back in the squad, after having injured his hamstring early in the season in a game against the Falcons.

However, Loubscher will start as a replacement and probably get some game time in the second half.
