Falcons make three changes
August 14, 2001

Falcons coach Phil Pretorius on Tuesday announced three changes to his starting line-up for Saturday's crunch Currie Cup game against the Lions at Ellis Park in Johannesburg.

Springbok squad member Adrian Jacobs makes a welcome return to the playing field after sustaining a Grade 2 tear of his groin whilst training with the national team in Durban for the second Test against France. He was out of action for seven weeks.

The exciting Jacobs replaces Wynand Lourens at centre to form a new midfield combination with the highly rated Etienne Botha. Lourens moves to the wing in place of Johan Houtsamer, who is currently the top try-scorer in the Currie Cup competition. Houtsamer and Western Province Springbok Pieter Rossouw share the top spot with five tries each.

In the other change the vastly experienced flank Jaco Booysen is back in the starting XV, replacing Lodewyk Hattingh, who reverts to the bench.

Falcons: Dawie du Toit, Tertius Douw, Adrian Jacobs, Etienne Botha, Wynand Lourens, Joe Esterhuizen, Deon de Kock, Naas Rossouw, Jaco Booysen, Nicky van der Walt, Braam Els, Ralf Schreuder, Matthew Proudfoot, James Dalton (capt), Gunder Williamson. Substitutes: Skipper Badenhorst, Japie Barnard, Stefan Britz, Freddy Roberts, Johan Houtsamer, Jan Cloete.
