Strange signing for Newport
August 15, 2001

Newport are hopeful that they can secure the services of Wales A international Jason Strange ending a bizarre transfer saga.

The 27-year-old has been a Pontypool player for just three weeks but turned out for Newport in the weekend's friendly with Bristol.

A sticking point in the move to the Black and Ambers could have been an agreement he made with former club Ebbw Vale that he could leave only on condition he did not join another Welsh/Scottish club.

First Division Pontypool are not happy about losing the player but Newport believe he will be their player after Ebbw Vale said they would allow the player to join the club.

It is not the first time Strange has been involved in a transfer saga. When he joined Ebbw Vale from Pontypridd the WRU stopped him playing after Newbridge claimed he was their player and produced evidence to back their story up.
