Morgan and Winters agree Quins deals
August 16, 2001

NEC Harlequins Wallaby second row Garrick Morgan has signed a new one-year contract with the club.

The 31-year-old won 30 international caps for Australia before joining Quins in 1998 making his debut against Leicester on the 5th September that year.

Morgan has been one of the club's most consistent performers during a lean period for the club and for his efforts was named the Players' Player of the Year last year.

He followed this up last season by being voted the Supporters' Player of the Year.

"Garrick is certainly a key member of our squad," said Mark Evans, NEC Harlequins chief executive. "I'm thrilled by this further commitment he has given to the club as it enables us to continue to build and plan our ambitions for the near and long-term future.

"He is one of the leaders of the team who is well respected and as
a player has the ability to dominate the lineout and pose a threat to any defence."

Quins have also announced that former Bedford back row Roy Winters has signed a new two-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2004.

The 25-year-old back-row forward signed for Quins from Bedford in the summer of 2000 and he will play against his former club
in this Saturday's (18th August 2001) pre-season friendly at Goldington Road, kick-off 3.00pm.

Winters was part of the England squad that toured South Africa in the summer of 2000 and featured in the victories over North-West Leopards (52-22) and Nashua Grequas (55-16).

He was also a crucial figure in Quins successful European Shield campaign last season, playing in eight of the nine matches.

"Although Roy still had another year on his contract to run, we were very keen to secure his services for the long-term future.

"His attitude and commitment are exemplary. The contribution that he made last season convinced us that here was a player that we wished to be associated with for the foreseeable future.

"The news that he has signed a new two-year deal is a tremendous
fillip for everyone associated with NEC Harlequins as we embark upon an exciting new season," said Evans.
