Lions injury woes continue
August 16, 2001

The Lions' injury woes continued on Wednesday when two more players went down in training ahead of Saturday's crunch Bankfin Currie Cup match against the pacesetting Falcons at Ellis Park.

Fullback Jannie van der Walt and lock Kleinjan Tromp limped off the training field to compound coach Frans Ludeke's problems. First-choice lock and captain Jannes Labuschagne is already very doubtful for the Section X fixture, having sat out practice for the second consecutive day with an injured groin.

Van der Walt, who is taking over the No 15 duties in the absence of Springbok Thinus Delport, took a bump to the neck but is confident of facing the Falcons. Tromp left the field after hurting his right foot near the end of the session.

If Labuschagne is forced to miss the game, his place in the second row will be taken by Barend Pieterse, with scrumhalf Werner Swanepoel taking over the captain's armband.
