RFL offer Radlinski a deal
August 24, 2001

The Rugby Football League have offered Wigan full back Kris Radlinski a package it hopes will keep him in the game.

Under the new Club Great Britain pilot scheme set up to protect approaches to league players from wealthy rugby unions the Great Britain full back would have his Wigan contract bolstered.

The enhanced package will be funded jointly by the RFL and Super League Europe Limited in the same way that St Helens' hooker Keiron Cunningham was persuaded to remain in league and shun a big money move to Swansea.

The RFL has confirmed that the player has approached directly and with the full knowledge of his club's management as one of the under-contract players identified as being integral to the aspirations of the Great Britain team.

Greg McCallum, the RFL's executive director, said: "We have spoken to Kris and made an offer to him. Now we are waiting to hear from him and remain optimistic that we can keep him within our sport".

No financial details of the package offered to Radlinski will be made public and neither the RFL nor Wigan Warriors were prepared to discuss this element of the offer to the player.

Radlinski was thought to be a target of England coach Clive Woodward with a number of Zurich Premiership clubs, including NEC Harlequins, hoping to benefit from the RFU funding earmarked for league players identified by the national side.
