Canterbury too good for Southland

Canterbury have seen off the challenge of Southland 37-12 at the Rugby Park Stadium in Invercargill.

Although the goal kickers for both teams were on fair form, Canterbury out-scored the home side five tries to none.

Southland managed to hold Canterbury to 10-9 late into the first half before Matt Sexton and Aaron Mauger crossed the tryline, helping to take Canterbury to a 27-9 lead at half time.

The second spell saw Canterbury launch wave after wave of attack, with further tries for Caleb Ralph and Joe Maddock, giving the side their bonus point.

Southland managed only the one penalty from the second half.
