Fleck out for eight weeks

Springbok vice-captain Robbie Fleck looks likely to miss the next eight weeks of Currie Cup rugby following the ankle injury he sustained on South Africa's Tri-Nations tour.

Fleck was injured in the 14-14 draw against Australia in Perth and a scan has revealed bruising of the fibia as well as torn ligaments. The Bok centre could miss Western Province's entire Currie Cup campaign.

It will come as a major setback to WP, but they nevertheless have vast depth at centre, where they will field a pairing of Braam van Straaten and the pacy Gus Theron for Saturday's Currie Cup clash against the Pumas at Newlands.

De Wet Barry is also due back from injury next week, while they also have Stuart Abbott and Werner Greeff at their disposal.

Fleck, however, has been in outstanding form for South Africa and will no doubt be sorely missed in the WP midfield. - Sapa
