Herkie takes Sharks' flyhalf spot
September 21, 2001

Herkie Kruger has edged out Gaffie du Toit for the vacant Natal Sharks flyhalf spot for Saturday's Top Eight fixture in the Bankfin Currie Cup competition against the Blue Bulls at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria.

Regular flyhalf Butch James was suspended for six weeks on Wednesday night following his tackling antics in the Sharks game against the Free State Cheetahs last Saturday. Kruger's return is one of two changes to the side. Warren Brosnihan will start at flank in place of Brad MacLeod-Henderson, who injured his cheek in an accident at training this week.

Du Toit (pictured) is on the substitutes' bench after two outings for the Natal Merit 'A' team, while Springbok Sevens star Warren Britz has recovered from the leg injury that kept him out of action for more than a month. He is also on the bench for a game the Sharks must win to stay in contention for a semifinal berth.

Natal Sharks: Justin Swart, Anton Pitout, Deon Kayser, Trevor Halstead, Stefan Terblanche, Herkie Kruger, Craig Davidson, Shaun Sowerby, Charl van Rensburg (capt), Warren Brosnihan, AJ Venter, Etienne Fynn, John Smit, Ollie le Roux. Substitutes: Lukas van Biljon, Eduard Coetzee, Albert van den Berg, Warren Britz, Dave von Hoesslin, Gaffie du Toit, Rodger Smith.
