Mulder out of Newlands clash

Springbok centre Japie Mulder has been withdrawn from the Lions team for their vital Bankfin Currie Cup Super Eight match against Western Province in Cape Town on Saturday.

Mulder was struggling with a buttock muscle injury sustained in training on Wednesday and failed a fitness test Friday.

Mulder's place will be taken by Grant Esterhuizen with Gcobani Bobo moving to inside centre and Jannie van der Walt coming onto the bench.

Meanwhile the Natal Rugby Union has until the end of the weekend to appeal Butch James' six week suspension for dangerous play in the Sharks' loss to the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein recently. - Sapa
