Petraca Padova join Parma on top
September 23, 2001

Petrarca Padova hammered Viadana at home, 22-0, in what was the most impressive win on Day 3 of the Italian Super Ten.

Samoan fly half Ngapaku Ngapaku kicked 17 points for the winners, including a drop goal and a conversion, while young Mirco Bergamasco, brother of Italy's international flanker Mauro, celebrated his debut in the first XV scoring the only try of the day.

The match was played under heavy rain with both teams using the boot as their main attacking option. Petrarca, who beat L'Aquila on Day One and drew with GR.AN the following week, remain the only unbeaten team of the championship and join Parma top of the table. Parma was brought to a halt by Calvisano, 21-16, away but gained one point in the ranking for losing by a margin of less than seven points.

Calvisano's forwards dominated the game, but was Parma to score the only try of the day, in the third minute, by centre Samuele Pace. Prop Giampiero De Carli lead the winners up front and was named man of the match while full back Kelly Rolleston kicked 18 points for Calvisano, with French fly half Laurent Bordes adding a drop goal.

In the other games of the day an unconvincing Treviso beat Bologna, 45-15, scoring six tries, two in injury time, but conceding two to the championship underdogs, Roma kept Rovigo at bay, 28-24, and GR.AN won their first match of the season, 23-17, against bottom of the table L'Aquila, who has lost all three gams played so far.
