Eastern Province centre sensation Sam Gerber on Monday confirmed he will stay with the Port Elizabeth team next season, despite interest from several bigger unions.

The 20-year-old, nephew of legendary Springbok centre Danie Gerber, has taken huge strides since making his debut for the Elephants in the Vodacom Cup earlier this year.

It was rumoured that the Pumas were after his signature, but after a heart-to-heart talk with coach Allister Coetzee and his agents Icon SMG, the gifted midfielder pledged his immediate future to the Telkom Park-based outfit.

"I am more than happy to stay with EP - they are going to be a formidable team in 2002," he said.

Meanwhile, Eastern Province on Monday also confirmed the signing of Lions and Cats star Clinton van Rensburg.

The utility-back, who shared the flyhalf duties with Louis Koen as the Cats marched to the Super 12 semifinals this year, signed a two-year deal with the Elephants, thus making him eligible for a return to the Sharks regional outfit for the 2002 Southern Hemisphere showpiece.
