Green light for Wallabies tour
October 10, 2001

Australia look unlikely to follow their rugby league counterparts by scrapping autumn tour plans.

The ARU told individual players they would not be forced to travel in the light of current world events, but a players' meeting at Coffs Harbour training camp on Wednesday adopted a united stance.

"We are still going ahead with our plans," said ARU spokesman Derek Nelson. "That will be the case unless any deterioration of the situation causes a possible reassessment."

They are monitoring world events on a daily basis ahead of the Wallabies' forthcoming five-week tour which features sell-out Tests against England, Wales and France.

The 30-man squad is due to arrive in London on October 21.

ARU managing director John O'Neill arrived in Dublin today for a scheduled 2003 World Cup planning meeting and is certain to discuss the political situation with International Rugby Board bosses.
