Erasmus, Delport ruled out
October 30, 2001

Cats duo Thinus Delport and Rassie Erasmus on Monday officially withdrew from the South Africa 'A' squad to tour Europe after medical tests in Johannesburg confirmed their respective injuries.

The former Springboks announced over the weekend that they would miss the games against Georgia, Spain, an English National Divisions XV and France 'A' because of injuries picked up during the domestic season, but national coach Harry Viljoen first wanted confirmation from his medical staff.

Delport is suffering from a knock to the shoulder picked up in the 32-22 Top Eight win against the Blue Bulls at Ellis Park. He played in the semifinal against the Natal Sharks the following week, but said he didn't want to jeopardise the SA 'A' team's chances by not being 100 per cent fit.

Erasmus, who is yet to see any Springbok action since Viljoen took over the reigns from Nick Mallett last year, is still having problems with a foot injury sustained in the Super 12. He aggravated the injury in a Currie Cup game against the Griffons this year and subsequently sat out for six weeks.

Natal No 8 and SA under-23 captain Shaun Sowerby will replace Erasmus, while Eastern Province and Sharks fullback Ricardo Loubscher comes in for Delport.
