Baabaas look to tempt Eales with Wallabies
October 30, 2001

The Barbarians are hoping to lure ex-Wallaby skipper John Eales out of retirement to face his former team-mates in their end of tour clash in Cardiff.

The Wallabies will face the star-studded representative side in November in the finale to their tour of Europe, and their former talismanic leader may be lining up against them.

The Syndney Morning Herald reported that it wil be a tough ask to lure Eales around the world just weeks after he farewelled Australian Test rugby following the Bledisloe Cup triumph in Sydney.

But with sales for the Australia-Barbarians match relatively slow, the Bob Dwyer-coached Barbarians realise they need some important drawcards in their line-up. Eales is the most obvious target.

The Barbarians have already lured some considerable names, including former Wallaby Pat Howard, Springboks Breyton Paulse and Mark Andrews, as well as British Lions Dai Young, Rob Howley, Dafydd James and Neil Back.
