Naas Botha to present Bok jerseys
November 9, 2001

Springbok coach Harry Viljoen on Friday afternoon invited former Springbok and flyhalf legend Naas Botha to present the Test 22 with their match jerseys for Saturday's one-off Test against France.
Viljoen, since taking charge of the Springboks, introduced the concept as recognition of the contribution these former greats have made to South African rugby.

Former Springbok captain Gary Teichmann was the first 'great' to be offered the opportunity of handing out the Test jerseys when the Boks played Wales in Cardiff last year.

Viljoen asked another former Bok captain, the English-based Francois Pienaar, to be involved in the build-up to the England match. In South Africa this year, the only former player asked to do so was legendary fullback HO de Villiers.

He presented to the players on the Friday prior to the Vodacom Tri-Nations Test against New Zealand in Cape Town. In Perth, managing director of SA Rugby Pty Ltd, Rian Oberholzer, became the first non-player to be invited to lead the ceremony.

Botha, who last played for the Boks in 1992, said he was honoured. Viljoen said that in each case the individual used had been recognised by the squad as having achieved extraordinary success in South African rugby, be it on the field or in the administration of the game
