Eagles name squad for South Africa Test
November 13, 2001

Twenty-eight players, led by captain Dave Hodges, have been named in the USA squad to face South Africa in Houston on December 1.

With a view to increasing depth, the training camp roster features a few up-and-comers, notably forwards Dan Dorsey, Andrew McGarry, Dan Anderson and Greg Alley.

Additionally, three newcomers from the 2001 All-American tour to Ireland
will be in camp in a developmental capacity: forwards Matt Huckaby and Brian
Surgener and back Taylor Nadauld. 2001
All-Americans Mike McDonald, Kort Schubert and Kimball Kjar have already
established themselves with the senior squad.

Test veterans Hodges, Luke Gross, Dan Lyle, Kevin Dalzell and Jason Keyter
return from their European clubs for the one-off international, while Philip
Eloff and Kurt Shuman head the list of domestic-based players.

More players may be added to the squad later.

Interim head coach Tom Billups will guide the USA against South Africa in a
match that marks the two teams' first meeting since 1981. The Eagles and
Springboks hooked up in New York that year with South Africa winning 38-7.

"We're playing a team that's top three in the world and we've got to front
up to the challenge. I'm looking forward to getting the boys into camp. The
game is a great opportunity to make a statement," Billups said in announcing
the squad.

The game comes at the end of South Africa's tour of Italy, France and England and one week before the 2001 All-Star Championship (ASCs) in Florida.

The test will be televised live in the United States, United Kingdom and
South Africa.
