Gregan wins another award
December 7, 2001

Wallaby captain George Gregan has won the Rugby Union Players Association's inaugural Rugby Medal for Excellence.

The award was voted on by Australian Super 12 players on a 3-2-1 basis.

The champion halfback received 42 points, to finish ahead of retired Wallaby captain John Eales (30), No 8 Toutai Kefu (21), fullback Matthew Burke (19) and Brumbies' team-mate and backrower Owen Finegan (16).

It was Gregan's second major award in consecutive months after he was named the International Rugby Players' Association Player of the Year at a function in London.

Gregan triumphantly led the ACT Brumbies to the Super 12 championship to become the first Australian team to win the title.
