Erasmus wants Bok jersey back

Free State flanker Rassie Erasmus is determined to get back into the Springbok team, but admits that he will need to take it one step at a time before donning the Green and Gold again.

The 29-year-old is currently recovering from foot surgery and will only make a comeback in March next year. That means he is likely to miss the start of the Super 12 and should make his comeback in the Vodacom Cup.

"I don't want to rush it," he was quoted on News24. "The plaster on my foot will only come off next month. Only then will I start the recovery process. I want to be completely fit before I start playing again.

"That means that I will probably play in a club match or two and then for the Free State in the Vodacom Cup. If I feel comfortable there, I will start looking to the Cats and the Super 12. I really enjoy the Super 12."

Erasmus, whose last Test was against France in June this year, said the fact that he was offered a national contract by Bok coach Harry Viljoen has served as added motivation.

"It is good to know that I still figure in the national plans. I owe Harry a lot of thanks for that. The feeling is something that I cannot describe.

"The will to play for the Boks again is still there. My goal is now to get into the right physical shape so that I can play my way back into the squad. For that you have to be at the very top of your fitness."
