Dallaglio in England Commonwealth Games squad
December 14, 2001

Lawrence Dallaglio, who has yet to kick a ball in anger this season since summer knee surgery cut short his Lions tour of Australia, is in England's 25-man sevens squad for next year's Commonwealth Games in Manchester.

Dallaglio, who was a member of England's 1993 sevens World Cup-winning squad, is joined by three other British Lions - Jason Robinson, Austin Healey and Dan Luger.

As well as internationals like Lewis Moody and Leon Lloyd, England sevens coach Joe Lydon has also chosen some of the Zurich Premiership's most exciting young talents including Newcastle wing Michael Stephenson, Gloucester flyer James Simpson-Daniel, London Irish flanker Declan Danaher and Sale's prolific try-scorer Mark Cueto.

With the likes of Dallaglio, Robinson, Luger and Healey on parade, England hold a realistic medal chance in Manchester, and England boss Clive Woodward has already made public his determination to go for gold.

A selection of players from the 25-man group will also participate in IRB world sevens series tournaments in Chile and Argentina.
