Kefu plays it game by game

Up and coming Queensland and Wallaby player Steve Kefu approaches the game in a way many of his teammates would do well to adopt.

The centre says he never looks further ahead than the next match, even though the next season he is now preparing for will start with the Reds soon in the Super 12s and may not finish with Australia until November.

"Often last year I would rock up for (Queensland) training on the Monday after a game and ask who are we playing next," Kefu said. "I can't wait to get back into it."

With veterans John Eales and Michael Foley now retired, Kefu believes Queensland will be one of the teams to beat in the Super 12s as it is forced to play a more youthful side.

"We've got good depth this year and a bit of pressure on us with all the young players coming up," he said. "With all the young players it really picks up the enthusiasm of the older blokes at training."

Kefu is focussing on his Reds duties for the time being, but is keen to again play alongside brother Toutai for the Wallabies in the future, and says some time spent training with a friend over the Christmas break was invaluable.

"It's been good training with him. It hardly felt like training at all. I feel fit. I feel good," Kefu said.
