Romanians to benefit from Sarries' scheme
January 4, 2002

Zurich Premiership side Saracens' scheme to boost rugby in Romania will come to fruition this weekend.

The club have chosen their Parker Pen Shield clash with Romanian side Dinamo Bucharesti this weekend to hand over nearly 1,700 items of muchneeded kit donated to the club by fans.

Saracens saw the limited resources in the country when they travelled to Romania earlier in the season and launched an appeal when they returned home.

Matt Jones, Saracens' media manager, told the Evening Standard, "At the last count, we have got 1,348 different items but that is likely to be more like 1,700 by the weekend. There are 180 pairs of boots, 400 jerseys, 240 pairs of shorts, 175 pairs of socks, 35 balls, 90 tracksuit tops and 60 bottoms, 15 kit bags, 15 boot bags and six tackle bags.

"BA are kindly shipping it all out to Romania free of charge and our sponsors Uni-Bond are producing some specially branded youth kit to be presented to Dinamo Bucharesti for them to take home.
