Skinstad to miss start of season
January 7, 2002

The Stormers received a massive blow over the weekend with the news that Springbok captain and influential No 8 Bob Skinstad will miss the start of the Super 12 campaign after undergoing a shoulder operation on Monday.

He aggravated an injury sustained against England at the end of last year at the team's training camp in George and is likely to be out of action for up to three months or, worst-case scenario, the entire Super 12.

Stormers coach Gert Smal rued his bad luck, but refused to make any decisions regarding captaincy and replacements just yet. "The injury and scan puts everything into a different perspective," he told Die Burger.

"Bob's injury worries me and the fact that he could be out for up to three months isn't good news at all. (But) we will only be able to say for sure once the operation has been done."
