Visser to miss Six Nations opener
January 8, 2002

Italy lock forward Wim Visser is almost certain to miss his country's opening match of the Six Nations tournament with France at the Stade de France on February 2.

Visser injured an ankle during his club side Benetton Treviso's 59-6 thrashing at the hands of Stade Francais on Saturday and has been dropped from the squad that will meet on January 20 in preparation for the France match.

That, explained Italy coach Brad Johnstone (pictured), means he is almost certain to miss the match at St Denis near Paris.

"Even if Visser makes a quick recovery he will not be able to reach 100 per cent fitness," said the New Zealander. "You have to be fully fit for the national side and that's why I have to do without him." - Sapa
