Krige to lead Stormers in 2002
January 8, 2002

Newly-elected Stormers coach Gert Smal on Monday reappointed Corne Krige as captain of the Stormers for the 2002 Super 12 campaign.

The Bok flanker was up against national captain Bob Skinstad for the honour of leading the side, but the latter's shoulder operation on Monday, which is likely to rule him out for three months, effectively made it a clear-cut decision.

Krige led the Stormers, under coach Alan Solomons, to fifth place in the 2001 tournament.

"Corné is a great leader and has proven his mettle against the best. He is well respected and I have every confidence in his ability to lead the team successfully this season," Smal said.

Krige responded: "I am honoured to lead the Stormers this season and will do whatever it takes to ensure success in 2002." - Sapa
