Decision delayed on 7s brawl hearing
January 8, 2002

The New Zealand and Fiji rugby sevens teams have an anxious wait to hear their fate following their ugly brawl at the Chile Sevens last weekend.

Both sides will have to wait for another few hours to find out whether they will be expelled from the world series.

International rugby officials met until the early hours of Tuesday morning but delayed the decision until around lunchtime.

Both teams were cited for bringing the game into disrepute. One of the main perpetrators, Fijian Marika Vunibaka was considered separately by the IRB.

The incident has been described as disappointing, the worst in years, and a poor example to be made by children's heroes.

Meanwhile the teams have flown on to Argentina to prepare for the next round this weekend.
