Stormers in fiery warm-up
February 3, 2002

The Stormers scored nine tries as they won their second warm-up match of the pre-season, beating the Renegades 55-24 at the Outeniqua Park in George on Saturday.

The halftime score was 38-0 in favour of the Stormers.

The Stormers were just too good for the Tim Lane-coached side that struggled to get any possession in the first 40 minutes. The Stormers, in contrast, played scintillating rugby in the first 40 minutes as their complicated moves and angles worked to perfection.

They scored four tries in the first 15 minutes as they raced to a 24-0 lead with scrumhalf Johannes Conradie beautifully orchestrating things from the base of the scrum.

The Stormers lost their shape a bit in the second half as coach Gert Smal brought on a host of replacements but the coach would have been delighted with the performance.

Stormers. Tries: Thys Stoltz, Pietie Ferreira, Adri Badenhorst, Bolla Conradie (2), Marius Joubert, Pieter Rossouw (2), Marius Goosen, Conversions: Percy Montgomery (4), Swys Swart.

Renegades. Tries: Monwabisi Mdyesha, Wynand Lourens, Nico Breedt (2). Conversions: Mdyesha (2)
