Galwey excited by potential

Ireland veteran Mick Galwey believes the current crop of green-shirted stars are the best there has been.

Galwey captained the Irish to a crushing 54-10 defeat of Wales at Lansdowne Road on Sunday in the absence of the injured Keith Wood.

And he said that victory coupled with the equally comfortable demolition of the Welsh A team in Cork on Saturday pointed to a strength in depth that Ireland have never before enjoyed.

Galwey, who made his Ireland debut exactly 11 years ago, said: "This side has a lot of potential. We used to rely too heavily on individual players to see us through but that's no longer the case.

"We were missing three Lions against Wales in Keith Wood, Malcolm O'Kelly and Eric Miller, but the guys who came in were outstanding.

"It means there's plenty of competition and everyone is kept on their toes."
