Azam to face investigation

Gloucester hooker Olivier Azam faces a Rugby Football Union panel in Coventry on Monday to investigate allegations he racially abused Newcastle Falcons Tongan flanker Epi Taione during the Zurich Premiership game at Kingsholm.

Michael Beloff QC, a member of the Court of Arbitration for Sport, will chair the three-man panel and will be assisted by Gordon Skelton, a recently retired police chief inspector for the Cumbrian Constabulary, and former England international Budge Rogers, a past president of the RFU.

"I believe that the panel is preparing to meet the main parties and to look into allegations of the incident and after that we can move forward to a judgement," said RFU disciplinary officer Robert Horner.

The panel will also consider allegations that the Gloucester crowd at the match in December made racist remarks during the game.

The investigations will also look into the conduct of the officials and members of both clubs during and after the game.
