Davies sets more targets for Tykes
February 24, 2002

Leeds boss Phil Davis is hoping the Tykes' 37-15 Zurich Premiership win over Saracens will help catapult his side away from the bottom of the table and the relegation trap door.

The Headingley outfit, who scored three tries on their way to their first victory away from home in the Premiership, have moved up to 11th and moved Harlequins down to the bottom of the pile.

Crucially the Tykes have two games in hand over basement side Quins.

But with the games against Northampton, London Irish and Gloucester still on the agenda, Davis is hoping the victory will go a long way to motivate the players.

"Hopefully, this is going to be a launch pad into the rest of the season for us," said Davis.

"This was a very important win for us and now we have just got to keep it going.

"We have just got to concentrate on doing our own jobs and not worry about what the other teams are doing.

"The players have been excellent all season and I'm sure we can keep it up."

Davis, whose team have occupied the bottom spot of the league for most of the season, continued: "Today has been a very big day for the club.

"It has been our first Premiership win away and I'm very pleased with the way the players have reacted over the past couple of weeks.

"It could have been easy for us to put our heads in the sand but we haven't and we've come back really strong."

Saracens first team coach Tim Wright, whose team remain eighth in the league table, said: "We are very disappointed.

"Individual mistakes seem to be infectious out there.

"We are now part of the relegation parade. We are in need of points to stay out of the dog fight."
