Waratahs wait on Edmonds
February 27, 2002

Waratahs coach Bob Dwyer is waiting on a fitness assessment on five-eighth Manuel Edmonds before finalising his side for Saturday's Super 12 clash against the Stormers in Cape Town.

Edmonds missed the opening game against the Chiefs due to a shoulder injury and in his absence Duncan McRae stepped up to play a starring role in the Waratahs' 42-25 victory.

"I'd have to say that Manny's still doubtful but there is a chance we could see him eased back on the bench as Duncan McRae performed extremely well last week," Dwyer said.

Dwyer is also considering starting former Argentina and Wallabies prop Patricio Noriega, so Rod Moore can recover from an accidental blow sustained during the Chiefs game.

"Rod's been cleared of any serious injury but we believe when you've got someone like Noriega sitting on the bench there's no point pushing your luck two games into a long, tough season.

"Rod copped a blow to the neck/head region during a lineout in Rotorua. He was lifting Jono West and copped a stray arm from Jono in the process.

"We were all a bit surprised it wasn't Tom Bowman who has taken out the odd team-mate over the years. It was a pretty vicious blow actually."

Dwyer is considering starting with Noriega and using Moore of the bench for this week's clash.
