Bobo's season is over

Cats centre Gcobani Bobo's season abruptly came to an end on Friday when he sustained a serous knee injury in his team's heavy 40-8 Super 12 defeat to the Highlanders at Carisbrook.

The man who was widely tipped to make his debut for the Springboks this season after a dream start to the Super 12 - scoring three tries against the Bulls and one against the Brumbies - injured cruciate ligaments in his right knee and will be out for six months.

Bobo (pictured) sustained the injury when he desperately tried to prevent Highlanders replacement wing Aisea Tuilevu from scoring a try.

The former SA Schools captain will return home immediately to undergo surgery. The Cats are already severely depleted, with stars like Andre Vos, Rassie Erasmus, Grant Esterhuizen, Joe van Niekerk and Andre Venter all injured. They will be sternly tested in their next match, against the Waratahs in Sydney on Saturday.

Bobo added penetration to a backline that has not inspired much confidence thus far. Coach Frans Ludeke must now decide between Danie van Schalkwyk, Rudi Coetzee or Jorrie Muller as a midfield partner for veteran Eugene Meyer.
