Greening on his way back
March 12, 2002

Phil Greening will take his first few steps back towards top flight international rugby with the England 7s squad in Beijing and can't wait to get started.

Greening, who is obviously targeting the 2003 World Cup, has been sidelined with injury for four months and jumped at the chance to get his international career back on track.

"As far as I am concerned Warren Gatland, the new director at Wasps, is God for sending me to China with England," Greening told the .

Greening was playing for London Wasps against Northampton last December when he broke a bone in his right hand.

He is no stranger to injury and thought recovery would be swift. But, he says: "I found I had no power in my hand, no use, and had to have a cast on for a while. Even now it is not completely right, but I just want to get going. It is important for me to get games now."

"My aim now has to be next season but I still hope to have some games for Wasps before the end of this season," he says. "If there is a tour this summer I would like to be on that and then try for the World Cup in what will be a massive year."
