Reds v Crusaders - Preview
March 14, 2002

The Reds entertain the in-form Crusaders in their latest Super 12 clash on Saturday with both sides looking to further their records.

WALKING WOUNDED
All Black and Crusaders No.8 Scott Robertson is out with a calf muscle injury. It will be the first time in 50 games he missed for the Crusaders. Sam Broomhall, who replaced Robertson against the Blues, will start at No.8. Lock Norm Maxwell, prop Greg Feek, hooker Corey Flynn and backs Aaron Mauger and Orene Ai'i have a few niggles, but all should be fit to play.

FORM
The Reds have a nice little roll going and deserved their 27-13 win against the Chiefs last weekend. However their poor discipline at time would be a worry for coach Mark McBain ... particularly as they come up against Crusaders dead-eye Andrew Mehrtens this weekend.
The Crusaders seemed to have left last year's disappointments well behind them and rarely gave the Blues a look-in during last week's 30-11 victory.

WHO'S HOT
Wallaby and Reds winger Ben Tune is a classic finisher and after a horrible 2001 due to injury put in a vintage performance against the Blues. He's certainly showing the way for Wendell Sailor who is quickly grasping the 15-man game.
Centre Aaron Mauger is providing a significant midfield presence for the Crusaders and provides plenty of options beyond Andrew Mehrtens.

WHO'S NOT
Wendell Sailor is not taking a backward step to the constant stream of Kiwi sledging, but he is not helping anyone when it results in 10 minutes cooling his heels on the sidelines.

KEY MATCH-UPS
Wendell Sailor v Joe Maddock
Norm Maxwell v Nathan Sharpe
Steve Kefu v Aaron Mauger

WE THINK
This promises to be a beauty with plenty of Wallabies and All Blacks running around. The Reds have not beaten the Crusaders in their past three games but will fancy themselves at home. Notorious slow starters, the Crusaders are enjoying a perfect start to the season and proved two years ago the Reds are very beatable at Ballymore. Reds by 10.
