Centre Leslie recalled for Scots
March 14, 2002

Northampton centre John Leslie has earned a recall to the Scotland squad for their Lloyds TSB Six Nations encounter with France at Murrayfield on March 23.

Coach Ian McGeechan has otherwise given a vote of confidence to the players who were beaten 43-22 by Ireland in Dublin last time out.

Leslie had last played for his country in October against New Zealand and had missed the last two matches, initially because of injury.

Scotland coach Ian McGeechan said: "I genuinely believe that this group of players has a lot to offer.

"It was a disappointing result against Ireland and it's up to all of us to put it right while not hiding from the fact that it was a poor performance in Dublin.

"I thought France were very good in all aspects of their play against England. They have flair and discipline and a great understanding between themselves.

"They didn't necessarily outplay England but they out-thought them, so we're under no illusions about the effort, technically and tactically, that we have to put in."
