The speculation over where former Wales and Lions coach Graham Henry would take on his next challenge has been ended with the news that he will return to Auckland as rugby resource manager.

The Auckland Rugby Football Union has announced that coach Graham Henry has signed an 18-month contract from June 1.

ARFU chief executive, David White said the Union had been discussing with Henry the possibility of creating a specific coaching role and were delighted that he still wished to be part of Auckland Rugby.

"It was imperative that we create a role for Graham that would utilise his talents," White said.

"To have confirmation he is back on board has delighted everyone. It will be tremendous to have a coach of Graham's expertise and experience available to act as a resource for coaches of all age groups."

Henry's role will include the provision of coaching support and assistance to all age-group representative coaches and holding clinics for club and secondary school coaches.

He will identify talent for the Auckland Rugby Academy, establish ongoing skill development programmes for Academy players and elite secondary school players, and he will provide technical support to the Auckland NPC side.

"Graham has experience that covers all areas of coaching and he can relate to the challenges coaches constantly face at various stages of their career," White said.

"He's been a secondary school and club coach, the Auckland Second XV coach and was a professional rugby coach for Auckland, the Blues, Wales and the British Lions. It will be great to have him back and once again part of Auckland rugby."
