Blues v Waratahs - Preview
March 28, 2002

The Waratahs will be looking to maintain their unbeated record in this year's Super 12 when they travel to Albany to take on the Blues on Friday.

HEAD TO HEAD: Blues 5 Waratahs 1
COVERAGE: Fox Sports
LAST TIME: Waratahs 35-19 - Sydney

WALKING WOUNDED
Mixed news for the Blues with x-rays clearing halfback Mark Robinson of a fractured cheekbone, but he is sporting some nasty bruising and stitches from a collision during the game against the Chiefs. Unfortunately fellow half Steve Devine needs surgery on further problems with his ankle. Lock Vula Maimura is battling head and shoulder problems, while winger Rupeni Caucaunibuca is rated only a 50-50 chance of making a return this week after breaking his leg in round one.
The Waratahs have made two changes with prop Patricio Noriega to start with Matt Dunning moving back to the bench as coach Bob Dwyer continues his prop rotation, while lock Tom Bowman comes in for Jono West, who received a three-week suspension for stomping.

FORM
The Waratahs presently share with the Sharks the distinction of making the best start to a Super 12 campaign - five straight wins. It is also the Waratahs' best Super 12 winning streak.
The Blues had a season-saving 37-30 win against the Chiefs last weekend after threatening to fall right of contention if they had a third successive loss.

WHO'S HOT
Waratahs skipper Matthew Burke will equal Sam Payne as the NSW's most capped rugby player when he runs out against the Blues on Friday. Burke, who turned 29 this week, will play his 91st game for the state.
Blues flyhalf-cum-fullback Carlos Spencer had a blinder against the Chiefs. Had a hand in all four Blues' tries and everytime he injected himself into the Blues line the Chiefs defence was usually grasping at air. Also made a couple of important tackles.

WHO'S NOT
The Blues defence was fairly shabby against the Chiefs. They missed 37 tackles ... if they do the same against the Waratahs it will be a disaster.

KEY MATCH-UPS
Carlos Spencer v Mat Rogers
Ron Cribb v David Lyons
Doug Howlett v Marc Stcherbina

WE THINK
The Waratahs are yet to enjoy an away win against the Blues, but such is their record-breaking form of late there seems no reason why this record should not go either. The Blues saved their season with a win against the Chiefs, but will need to show a lot more to worry the Waratahs. Waratahs by 12.
