Canada coach excited by Scotland tour

Canada coach Dave Clark believes Scotland can play a major part in re-establishing his team on the world map.

Ian McGeechan's team will compete in a four-game tour of the country, including an international match, in the summer.

But Clark insists the tour can help put the Canadian problems of last year after a strike by players forced the cancellation of the autumn Test at Murrayfield.

Canadian players were deeply unhappy about the change of national team management when Rugby Canada sacked Clark. But the authorities backed down and Clark was reinstated.

"I'm really excited about the Scotland tour," said Clark.

"It puts Canada back on the field after the events of last year and it is an opportunity for the Canadian rugby public to demonstrate both vocally, and by their presence in the stands, their support to the Canadian team.

"The entire national Canadian long-list will be on show in these four games.

"We will use the top 22 players in the Toronto and Vancouver games. The Eastern and Western Canada matches will feature the remainder of the long-list."

Scotland take on an Eastern Canada XV at Kingston's Richardson Stadium on Wednesday June 5 before moving to Toronto where they will take on Canada in an unofficial Test on June 8.

Scotland will then fly across Canada to Vancouver Island where they face Canada West on Wednesday June 11.

The international between Canada and Scotland will take place at Vancouver's Thunderbird Stadium on June 15.
