Wasps' Wycombe move hits glitch
March 28, 2002

Wycombe will appeal against a local council decision not to grant Wasps rugby club permission to groundshare Adams Park.

The council verdict came as a double blow to Wycombe, who could be set to lose £240,000 in television revenue after troubled broadcaster ITV Digital went into administration.

But chief executive Simon Monkman remained confident he would eventually win the right to bring Wasps to Wycombe.

He said: "It's not the end of the battle but this particular fight has been lost.

"Wasps are still absolutely determined to play rugby here and we are still absolutely determined to have them here, and we will continue to make progress I hope."

A council spokesperson said: "We have not said 'no' to Wycombe Wanderers, we are simply saying that under the current conditions, rugby cannot be played at Adams Park without planning permission, which we would gladly consider on receipt of an application."

Wasps are set to share with Harlequins until they secure permission for the move.
