Sailor confirms Zurich aspirations
March 29, 2002

Australian superstar Wendell Sailor has confirmed that he would love to test himself in the Zurich Premiership before the end of his career.

The former Australian rugby league star has just set out on his new career in the 15-man code, after joining the Queensland Reds Super 12 side, but he is already looking further ahead to a move to England.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with TEAMtalk 252's The Front Row, Sailor said: "I'd like to think I could give it a go. I'd like to think I could get a contract over there somewhere. I always enjoyed playing over there when I was in league, so hopefully I can come back in union and play again some day."

Sailor first tested the water in union when he enjoyed a short spell with Leeds Tykes three years ago, and he admits that the move to Yorkshire gave him the confidence that he could be a success in union.

"It gave me a bit of confidence," said Sailor. "The guys at Leeds helped me out a lot and Phil Davies, the coach, was quite good. We had a bit of success and went well in the second division, so that gave me a bit of a foothold and told me where I wanted to go.

"They made me feel quite welcome and I scored a few tries there, and that made me think 'maybe playing in the Super 12 with The Reds and playing for The Wallabies would be a good opportunity' -and it's gone pretty well so far."

You can hear the rest of this exclusive interview on The Front Row on TEAMtalk 252 LW at 5.30pm on Good Friday.
