Roff set to return to Brumbies

The Brumbies are confident of welcoming Wallaby winger Joe Roff back to Canberra for next year's Super 12 tournament.

Roff stepped away from Australian rugby this season to play with French club Biarritz Olympique. But since his departure last year, Brumbies and Australian Rugby Union officials have remained in contact with Roff to ensure he returns next year.

Wallaby coach Eddie Jones said negotiations were positive, while Brumbies general manager Mark Sinderberry said a decision could be made soon.

The 26-year-old Roff (pictured) is expected to play a major part in the Wallabies' World Cup defence next year.

"I guess it's fair to say we are getting closer to finalising negotiations," Sinderberry said. "I'm optimistic that the next couple of weeks will have it resolved."

Roff has experienced mixed fortunes during his time in France. He was Biarritz's second highest points scorer in the initial pool phase of the French first division championship, notching 36 points with the boot.

However, he spent a month on the sidelines with a heel injury and is again out of action after he broke his nose and underwent surgery last week.
