Wales 'A' see off Scotland 'A'
April 6, 2002

Wales A turned on the power in the second half to steamroller their way to Six Nations victory over Scotland at the Racecourse Ground in Wrexham.

After the fast and furious first half Wales went back to basics and used their pack to grind out a result as they shut out the Scots after the interval.

Wales had begun the game with a bang and scored after only three minutes when hooker Mefin Davies was driven over from a line-out caught by Gareth Llewellyn, with outside half Lee Jarvis converting with a soaring kick.

Scotland pulled back a simple penalty by outside half Gordon Ross but a neat half break by Jarvis put centre Tom Shanklin over for a try at the post which Jarvis converted.

When Gareth Wyatt went over for a third Welsh try after 18 minutes things looked black for the Scots but they dug deep and came roaring back.

Ross sneaked through for a try, converted himself and then dropped a goal before skipper Nathan Hinds cruised over as Wales lost their way.

Ross converted that to put Scotland ahead and then dropped a goal right on half time to make 23-19 to the Scots.

But Wales again started well in the second half and after only two minutes they were back in front.

A slick move on the right and a half break by Jarvis' replacement Craig Warlow saw Gareth Thomas squeeze in at the corner.

Warlow missed the conversion but the Welsh pack were now in full cry and Scotland were living on scraps as they were penned into their own half.

Warlow missed a straightforward penalty but then kicked an even easier one to widen the gap and even though he missed another good chance, Scotland was now on the rack.

They were running the ball from everywhere as time ticked away but Warlow had the last word with a drop goal from 30 metres to seal the Welsh win.
