Former Eagles boss interviewed for Bath post
April 18, 2002

Former United States head coach Jack Clark has been interviewed for the post of rugby director at Bath.

Clark, who led the Eagles between 1993 and the 1999 World Cup before becoming general manager of USA Rugby, met Bath owner Andrew Brownsword and watched the Zurich Premiership clash with London Irish last week.

He is on an eight-man short-list for the job at England's most successful club, who are currently battling against relegation, although his business skills have also put him in the frame for a chief executive's role.

The former lock has been the driving force behind creating a professional infrastructure within the US and has brokered deals with Sky and adidas.

Bath team director Michael Foley, in charge following the resignation of Jon Callard last month, said: "Jack comes from a country with a long history of professional sport behind it.

"Commercially he is as sound as anything and he does have that rugby knowledge."

Clark already knows Bath's American trio Dan Lyle, Kevin Dalzell and Dan Dorsey as well as video analyst and scrummaging coach Jon Moore through his work with the Eagles.

Bath general manager Bob Calleja said: "Jack Clark is an impressive candidate for the director of rugby post although arguably, given his admin background, he may be a better prospect as a chief executive."
