Reds trio in doubt
April 23, 2002

The Queensland Reds have three key players in doubt for Saturday's Super 12 match against the Sharks in Durban.

The Reds, who jumped into the top four with their win over the Cats last weekend, could be without skipper Daniel Herbert, lock Nathan Sharpe and fly-half Elton Flatley as they look to complete a clean sweep of the South African teams.

Herbert is again in doubt with the hamstring injury which kept him out of the Cats game, Sharpe has a shoulder problem while Flatley has a hip injury.

Herbert felt a twinge during a training session and isn't too confident that he will be recovered by matchday.

"I'll give it 24 hours and then try to run again and if it hasn't improved then it's obviously not going to be good enough by the weekend," he said.

Herbert added that it appears the Reds' South African injury curse has continued after Damian Smith broke his leg there last year and former players Jason Little and Tim Horan both copped serious knee injuries there in the past.

"South Africa has got us again - we always seem to pick up injuries here," Herbert said.

If the trio are ruled out Junior Pelesasa will play outside centre in Herbert's place, Andrew Scotney will make his starting debut in Flatley's position and Mike Mitchell would replace Sharpe.

If Queensland is successful it would complete a clean sweep of the South African teams by the Reds, Waratahs and Brumbies, to beat the previous record of nine wins set in 2000.
