Vos plays down Exiles link

Former Springbok captain Andre Vos on Monday denied having signed a contract with English Premiership side London Irish, despite reports all but confirming him as a future Exile.

Speculation is rife that the 27-year-old will join a host of South Africans, including player/coach Brendan Venter, at the Powergen Cup winning side, but Vos confirmed that nothing has been signed as yet.

"I haven't signed for the Irish. I haven't signed for anyone," he told The Star. "I have been speaking to a few clubs over there and I might yet end up there, but as of this moment I haven't decided anything.

Venter confirmed to the Daily Mail today that the club had bid for the former South Africa captain. "We have made him an offer," said Venter. "We'd like to get him here for two years."

Vos said he was now concentrating on fulfilling his commitments to the Cats and Lions, but added he would probably end up overseas. "It's more than likely that I will end up playing in England, yes."

He also confirmed he would stick with his decision of retiring from the international scene, despite new Springbok coach Rudolf Straeuli trying to persuade him otherwise. "Once you've made a decision, you should always stick with it."
