Boome defies the trend
April 27, 2002

Montferrand's South African flanker Selborne Boome has decided to return home after two years in France in an attempt to rekindle his Springbok career ahead of next year's World Cup.

The former Western Province and Stormers second rower shocked fans in 1999 when he gave up his Springbok jersey to earn some big money in Europe, but he has now decided to return to stake a claim for inclusion in the 2003 World Cup squad.

There was some good news for the French club, though, as they announced the signing of Leicester hooker Richard Cockrill on a two-year contract.

The 31-year-old has played 27 times for England and was selected once for the Barbarians.

Montferrand are on course to qualify for the semifinals of the French championship playoffs, despite a defeat to Toulouse last weekend.
